I quit

Warning: swearing

Have you ever thought about what almost 7 years of discord does to a person? Specially if they signed up at an age as young as 7? I can answer that. I've been a discord user for almost 7 years now (Joined 18 February, 2017), signing up at age 7, now almost reaching the age of 15. Warning, if you're a pro-discord person (if people like that even exist), please leave, as I WILL shit on discord if I need to. While younger, I had no supervision from my parents on devices, and I still don't. And that very bad things to happen. And some good things. But they aren't the point here, and neither will I try to convince you to leave discord too. I'm here to tell my own experience with that platform, and what I think about it after some years. The freedom that platform gives their users is very dangerous, using myself as an example. Only in discord, 6 years ago, was I exposed to all sorts of NSFW, extreme media and weirdos. AS AN 8 YEAR OLD. That still hasn't changed. Because guess what? DISCORD DOESN'T GIVE A FUCK. They never will. Their moderation system sucks, is very unstable and unreliable, like it has always been. I wont go repeating the same "Discord in 2015: Hi we're an app to replace skype" line, because they don't deserve any credibility. Not atleast from me. I've gotten harassed countlessly and my privacy invaded without any consequences to whose did those. Simply. Because. THEY DON'T CAAAARE. Want to know how much they don't care about your privacy at all? When deleting your account, instead of making the user choose to not keep the messages, they force you to only anonimize yourself. Keeping potentially harmful screenshots/messages from YEARS ago, still there, for anyone to find and share everywhere. Isn't that sweet? The feeling of unsafeness consumes me everytime I care to check my pings on Discord, because I became paranoid of people attacking me for no reason. This has also made me act very hostile and have defensive mode on at all times. It's agonizing, and I can't stand this for much longer. It fucking hurts. Trying to have some fun with genuine friends has been impossible for me lately because of this. And all the annoying nitro shit doesn't make it better. They could have kept silent about it, but no, they HAVE to make you aware that you need nitro to enjoy the app at its fullest, which sucks. DOOKIE. No matter how much they try to make nitro better now, they already destroyed the entire point of having discord there. "Ahh but they're a company or something they need to make money blah blah blah" As long as you don't keep pestering me about it, you're good. Discord just doesn't want to help. Because, like all modern companies nowadays, all they want is your money to invest on more shitty updates. One after another. And from 2023, they've been only getting worse on that. The modern mobile app sucks, and using older versions doesn't even help that, because it only shows discord really IS destroying itself , and you'll be missing out on QOL features older clients don't have. They've added profile decorations, which are IMPOSSIBLE for someone as poor as me to get by themselves, as you need both NITRO and to PAY for the profile deco you want. People have gotten out of their way to provide MODS of their official clients to, quote n quote, "Make discord better", which just makes them even lazier and even more careless about their situation. But no one cares. Not one cares to realize, because well, you'd think: "Everyone uses discord, so why should I leave, and potientially lose contact to all my friends?" And you're completely right. Everyone has their own situation, and for mine, I hope no one goes through this, too. I'm telling you all this, on this neocities page, because I'm done with Discord. I'm exhausted, tired even of just "accepting" and moving on. This will never stop being a concern if I don't end it. I will try my best to keep in contact with my friends, but I'm afraid most wont be willing to back, just for me. The only thing keeping me from completely deleting all my accounts and disappearing from the internet completely are my friends. Getting rid of Discord is, unfortunately, only one small step. If you've made the effort to read through all of this, thank you. Thank you for reading my rant. Thank you for caring, no matter if you're hate reading this or not. It shows nothing was in vain. Shows that theres still hope, maybe.
